tripadvisorAttended a concert there - great acoustics. I wish we would have come a little sooner to look around the mansion a little more. I didn’t realize the history we were stepping into. My husband purchased the concert tickets. Also come early as you may need to walk a bit - not super far, but it is uphill. After a full supper I actually had to stop and rest a couple times up the hill!! Ha ha
MoreBeautiful venue with lots of preserved character and charm.Hoyt Sherman Place is pretty easy to get to. There were several parking options for my event, including valet, paid lot, and free on-street. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant for walking - though it's a little hilly. Two things I noted about the event security: 1) they were friendly and efficient; 2) there were so many of them, there was zero delay to entry. The same can be said for the ticket scanner staff ... and helpful ushers at each door to help you find your seat.I was pleasantly surprised that the seats were comfortable, including being of a modern width - though there is no leg / knee room. So, if you'r seated on the aisles, be prepared to stand and step to the aisle to let folks in to their center seats.Water, soda, wine, and cocktails were available for purchase in a side room.Great sightlines, lighting, and sound. I really enjoyed the show I attended.Hoyt Sherman is an excellent theater for a concert or event.
MoreHoyt Sherman is a beautiful place, and the show was good. However the Ushers in the balcony have no idea what the seating chart is. We were escorted to different seats 3 times before they finally figured out what our seat numbers and sections were. I expected better service.
MoreThis is a free museum. It's not as large as some historical mansions but there is not charge. One of the directors gave us a tour of the place pointing out some of the unique features of the house, the restoration and the history. That was special since, he interrupted his workday to make our visit amazing. It's always more interesting the hear about a historical building from an expert.
MoreIs this place beautiful? Yes. Are the concerts intimate and up close? Yes. Are there any bad seats in the house? No. However, due to the theater venue people are shamed when they stand at a concert that is rocking. We are not talking about the symphony or a play. I think this should be addressed as I will not return to see a concert.
