tripadvisorThis was a great place. Nice hotel and friendly staff. The hotel was surrounded by great choices for restaurants.
MoreWhat should have been a week-long stay became one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. If I could give this Marriott ZERO STARS I would. Our reservation was Aug. 2–9, with an expected total of approximately $2,500–$2,900. After only FOUR DAYS, Marriott had already charged my credit card approximately $3,400. When I questioned the charges, a front desk employee reviewed my account and told me I should have only been charged about $1,400 at that point. Yet no one could explain where the additional charges came from.I was then told that because this was an extended stay, Marriott would continue attempting to charge my card approximately $1,700 PER NIGHT, including incidentals. Had this continued through Sunday, I would have needed well over $10,000 available for a stay costing less than $3,000. I repeatedly asked for the Marriott policy explaining these charges. No one could provide one. The repeated transactions became so excessive that my credit card company began flagging them as potential fraud. The next morning, the situation became even worse. A front desk employee who presented himself as the manager became hostile and condescending while I simply asked for an explanation. He actually told me this was an expensive hotel and if I couldn't afford to stay there, we should leave. For someone who claims the worked here for 30+ years, his customer service was disgusting and extremely degrading. My ability to afford the hotel was NEVER the issue—the unexplained thousands of dollars in charges were. His demeanor also changed completely when my husband came downstairs with me. We ultimately checked out early because we were uncomfortable remaining at the property, only to be charged another $355 early departure fee.The rest of the experience wasn't much better. We paid has excessive fees for M Club access, yet food and coffee were frequently unavailable or not replenished, and we still had to purchase breakfast separately. Restaurant staff also made inappropriate comments to my husband, including questioning whether he had ever stayed at an establishment like this before due to the frustrations behind their service and the lack of food or timeliness of service. We travel EXTENSIVELY for Track & Field events across this country and have stayed at many hotels. I have NEVER experienced billing practices or treatment like this. Marriott Corporate is now involved in addressing the excessive charges that the hotel itself could not explain.I would strongly discourage anyone traveling to the Des Moines area—especially families traveling for AAU events—from staying at this property. I actually hope that AAU removes Des Moines off their list soon so that we as families do not have to encounter such nasty disrespectful behavior from hotel staff. I would rather travel further west to another state than Iowa. I will also be filing a complaint with AAU on this. Completely unacceptable.
MoreWe have stayed at this Marriott several times when traveling cross-country to visit relatives. Always a pleasant experience with very friendly and helpful staff. We recently stayed again and Tyson, at the front desk, was so accommodating and considerate, which meant so much after driving 10 hrs. He couldn't have been more kind! We had a wonderful and very clean room, and the restaurant on-site was a huge bonus with great food and fantastic service. Breakfast the next morning was superb. Love the location, too, as it is close to gas stations, grocery, etc. Will absolutely stay again and again in the future!!
MoreNice property, seems recently renovated. Room was very nice and spacious and I got a suite upgrade as titanium. Everything was perfect until I went to take a shower. There was one long hair strand stuck to each shower wall. So no one cleaned the shower. Made me wonder what else hadnt been cleaned
MoreThis is one of the best Hotel experience I have ever had. The front desk people that greeted me were pleasant and helpful. The bar/restaurant professionals were friendly and attentive. The food was great and the room was clean and quiet. Well played Marriott of West Des Moines, Iowa.
