With an extensive variety of beers, bottled and on tap, and a diverse crowd to match, Royal Mile is one of Des Moines' favorite bars. The decor is reminiscent of an old English pub with dark wooden interiors and outdoor seating, but the crowd is lively and convivial. There's also a menu featuring bar snack staples such as fish and chips, and Scottish eggs. If you love beer with a slice of English pub life on the side, Royal Mile is your place.

tripadvisorI was visiting Des Moines for the State Fair and stayed across the street in the old Elliot Hotel, so stopped in a few times during my visit. The cider was cold and dry (I'm partial to cider from my years living in Britain). I had Guinness beef stew over mashed potatoes on my first night, which was delicious and just enough after a long day of travel. On my return, I tried the pork tenderloin sandwich and enjoyed it as well. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My stay was early in the week so things were quiet, but the area is a lively scene at the weekends. Enjoyed my stay and will be back when I'm in town again.
MoreEnjoyed the large variety of British food and good service. Shepherds pie, poutine were great! Sticky toffee pudding could be improved - tasty but not as expected.
MoreVery authentic, nicely decorated pub inside! Came for brunch and tried the English breakfast. Not the best, but fine if you’re wanting to give it a try! Great place if you’re trying to catch the weekend soccer matches
MoreI come to Des Moines for work several times a year and have tried many places around town. This is a great laid back place to get a good meal, good cold beer and great service.
MoreSolid menu, filling portions, timely service. Had dinner here before a hockey game. Wide menu, staff was great and a very robust beer menu. Food was good, lots of it - no cheaping out on portions. Fair price for downtown. Easy to find although parking sucks.
