tripadvisorThis gem is a great place to wander among large, mostly contemporary, sculptures in a park-like setting about 10 miles north of downtown Milwaukee. I've been here a few times and haven't encountered many people on its gently sculptured grounds. When I visited there was also a small inside show on man who created intricate pieces that look like they were made from metal, but made from corrugated cardboard. There are many paths so you'll be walking mostly on grass so choose appropriate shoes. They do have special wheelchairs for the traversing the grass so do let mobility issues deter you from visiting.
MoreThe place has a collection of interesting sculptures. It is enjoyable to walk around the pond and see the sculptures. You can go to the visitor center and pick up a map, and there are a few small sculptures in the building. There is a bonsai exhibit and on certain days, there is a narrator. He was telling us how he used wires to shape a bonsai. Amazing place to relax and enjoy the scenery. And it is free admission and plenty of parking.
MoreI really enjoyed this place! The gardens were lovely and sculptures were fascinating! One of my favorite areas was a pond with lots of water lilies. My only complaint is that I wish there were marked walking paths there. Although I did receive a map, it was difficult to follow at times. As I was walking all around the grounds, I inadvertently ended up on a trail that I never intended to go on becaise it wasn't marked as a trail. The map had numbers for the sculptures and the name of the sculptor but no titles or descriptions of the sculptures so I really couldn't tell for sure what sculpture I was seeing. In the wooded areas, it was more difficult to know where I was. In spite of these issues, I enjoyed the beauty of the place very much! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys gardens and sculptures. A real bonsus is that admission is free!
MoreWent here with an MKE native who lived there for 50+ years... and had never been there. It was recommended by a surprise travel agency, Pack Up + Go. Free admission, beautiful grounds, tranquil. What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful afternoon!
MoreThis was our first visit to the gardens and the grounds were breathtaking! I lovesculptures and enjoyed the many on display but I have to say just walking around the grounds and visiting the bonsai house was my favorite part of the visit. So Zen!!
