The Two Gentlemen of Verona - done as a musical/farce/comedy - was a mix of dopey, creativity, good humor and cast shenanigans. This must have been a fun show to do - I was as taken by the concurrent lunar eclipse - clearly seen over the outdoor setting - as anything happening on stage. My companion thought the show humorous and a creative take on a much maligned Shakespeare work. I thought the performers were - as always - excellent, the staging just right (though a bit over use of the aisles as entrances and exits). The fourth wall was broken so often it barely existed - the use of audience members for so so bits of schtick became repetitive - and the humor, often sophomoric and grasping of low hanging fruit made the evening a farce for farce's sake. I ended up not caring much about the characters, the plot or the outcome - in fact, ended up in a weird spot; not caring much for the show, but over all liking the superb actors and the shear attempt at an irreverent fun evening - something to appreciate anytime but especially in these dark times.

Plenty of parking, plenty of picnic tables where you can eat your preordered box lunch or bring your own picnic and wine. Uphill easy ten minute walk to theater with a shuttle option if you need assistance. Bug spray is provided at little stations on the walk up to the theater if necessary. We didn’t encounter many bugs and were literally in the woods eating dinner. Bring a poncho as the play will go on unless there is lightning. They gave us napkins to wipe off nicely cushioned seats. Intermission line to get a snack was very quick with plenty of staff who are very efficient and friendly. Plenty of clean restrooms. Remember you’re in the woods though so wear proper shoes. Loafers are fine but skinny flip flops on the gravel path down the dimly lit path after the performance are probably not a great idea. The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder was absolutely spectacular. I would give eleven stars if possible. Lighting, sound, set, actors all top notch. LOVED IT!

Loved everything we've ever seen here, but my favorite re the comedies. You also can't beat Shakespere on the stage up the hill. There's something magical about the place, the space, the art, the whole thing that makes APT a full experience.

We visited the theater in June with our antique car club.We ordered groups of tickets in advance to seat together. The play , actors, and theater were amazing! Three suggestions: 1. Arrive early and park near the gates so you can leave without a long line of cars 2. Take the bus as it is a very long walk uphill to the theater 3. If you are hard of hearing get seats towards the middle as you will miss dialog as they did not use microphones on actors and at the edge of seating we could barely hear.
