tripadvisorUnfriendly, came out yelling and her pitbull ran out barking at our car sounding very mean. Then said we needed to listen to her story then we could go. We left, seemed super creepy and unsafe. Ive been to these types of places and they are weird and creepy but so cool but the lady was very off putting.
MoreOvergrown, it's years passed it's luster. So much rusted and rotted junk! Ron, an aging hippy, invited us to view his painted bedsheets on the ground floor of his house. We drove around (it takes up acres) and saw boats painted and half buried, buses and trucks spray painted and half buried, and hundreds of shoes hanging from trees and fences. When I asked about it, he said they were lost soles. (groan) There were hundreds, if not thousands, of beer and wine bottles cemented into designs. There are also animals (peacocks, chickens and goats) running loose.
MoreDrive past all the junkyards abd this is the last place on the road. One gentleman comes out and tells you jokes and there is junk everywhere. It’s fun but not very well kept. Needs mowing but hey it’s just donation and you can drive through. Don’t have to pay anything. See some junk and kill 20 minutes.
MoreMy husband and I loved this place, we loved Ron and his wife Linda the owners. It’s great to have creative eccentrics out there still pushing boundaries and doing their own thing, and doing it with such great humour…we felt really welcome and were here almost 2 hours on a bitterly cold day! Ron is full of stories, he’s a genuine quirky outsider artist, full of jokes and funny asides. He walked us around his property showing us his chainsaw carvings, trucks upended in the ground, a row of graffiti painted upended boats, his shoe tree…and inside his incredible Quonset adapted home. Showed us his painted floors, his indoor garden, hand made cage elevator and art painted with household paint on to large hung bedsheets. This is proper American eccentricity, it’s a mad jumble from inside someone’s head laid out in a playful mess of fun and creativity and if you’re open to that kind of thing then this will be a treat for you. Long live Ron and Linda…we need more like them.
MoreCertainly a stop you should do if you like quirky kind of sites! It is amazing what the people who live here have accomplished. Much of it done with tongue and cheek humor and puns. The family has owned the property for 75 years and the fellow and his wife are the current caretakers/owners through the family. When you pull in, go to the STOP and honk. The wife came out and gave us a history like non other. Be prepared, we stood there for about 30 mins. The gentleman came strolling through about 45 mins later, while we were wandering around and gave us a personal tour of his art gallery. He is a funny guy, but a bit hard to understand because he is soft spoken and talks VERY fast. Good luck. However, he is the one who has crafted so many of these things and has a pun pretty much for everything he's done. There is quite a bit to see and you are free to wander or drive around. It's free, but they do have a donation jar for those who wish to contribute.
