The Concordia Cemetery is a place of rest that is filled with historical characters of all types, from Mexican presidents and generals to Civil War Vets and even the man once known as the tallest in the world. There is also an interesting story about Chinese laborers buried here that glumly highlights the tumult of men working on the American railroads. A very interesting cemetery indeed, guests will also find the graves of Buffalo Soldiers, gunfighters, war veterans and during the Halloween season, don't forget to catch the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival.

tripadvisorIf you going to see John Wesley Hardin, his tomb will be easy to find. It has a large cage around it, and it really stand out. If you want to visit the tombs of other notable people, good luck. The cemetery is quite extensive, and there is no management office to ask for assistance. So if you don’t know where the grave is, then you most like won’t find it.
MoreThe description doesn't do this place justice. John Wesley Hardin (who studied for his law degree while in prison for murder) is buried two graves away from the Polish Cowboy, Martin M'Rose (Mroz), whose (modern) gravestone proclaims Died at the Hands of Others. The others would be Hardin and others, who had a thing for Mroz's wife Beulah. Hardin's killer, John Selman, Sr. is not buried far away from their graves. Across from Hardin's grave is a Chinese cemetery; elsewhere in the Cemetery are colorful and ornate gravesites that are worth a picture or two. Then head across the street to the famous L&J Cafe, one of the best Mexican restaurants in El Paso, founded in 1927.
MoreFull of history. Get a guided tour, often from people in costume and then go across the street and eat and L and J cafe.
MoreMy husband and I live in Lake Ozark MO and this is the second time we've had the chance to visit the Concordia Cemetery. My husband is a history buff and he's taken me to many locations around the west and south west of our great American. We live where the grass, weeds and trees flourish in the summer and run to Yuma Arizona in the winter. So we are familiar with same and dust. Concordia Cemetery is a true example of the dry dust environment of Texas. I love cemeteries and believe they are a combination of art, family connection and history. My only wish for this cemetery that is a piece of history is that the goats head weed be removed from your grounds.
MoreWe love old cemeteries and this one did not disappoint. We would have liked more time to walk about and see some of the older graves. There's quite a bit of information on line about this one. If you're here - hop across the street and enjoy a drink or good Mexican food at L&J Cafe.
