tripadvisorOffered early checkin - apparently everybody signed up because many people got rooms early. We got ours about 2:45-3pm. Not so early. The wait would have been more bareable if the restaurant was really an ‘All Day Eatery’ or the Lobby had been heated. A cold snap had hit and we might as well have been sitting outside the lobby was so COLD. We finally got to our room and the heat would not come on. Apparently they have to do something downstairs. It came on about 15 minutes after I called. It stopped working again about 2am. I called at 9:15am an engineer came later and took it off the wall thermostat control. It worked on manual control. I specifically requested a bathtub. Perhaps I should have requested a ‘functional’ bathtub. No way to stopper the drain. If you have allergies, sniff test the shampoo and conditioner before using. Very strong perfume scent. The bed was ‘ok’ but not great. Soft initially but then very hard. Back to the ‘Coins’ restaurant - they gave a website with a breakfast menu. It looked great! Reality is - “We don’t do the menu right now. We only have buffet. $24 for a to go box.” I asked what about lunch? No, they are closed until 5 or 5:30pm. I looked at their buffet - so not worth that price.
MoreClean, helpful staff, great value, awesome room, very conveniently located to lots of the best old city sights and more neighborhoods
MoreThe staff were lovely . The hotel room was never cleaned in a week . Never offered clean towels etc . Always had to ask for . Hallways were not cleaned either . The place is dirty . Would not stay again
MoreThe Wyndham Hotel is centrally located to many of the visitor experiences. Although it's a little worn down, the front desk staff and concierge's knowledge of the area was very helpful. One of the elevators has a very noticeable jolt every time it is used. The room on the 8th floor was clean and comfortable. From first appearance the King sized bed looked more like a Queen size, but it was very comfortable. Several of the drawers were difficult to open and one just opened on its own (watch your knees!). The room comes with a mini fridge and microwave. The hotel is located across the street from a firehouse, so when the trucks roll out, it can be quite loud. It's only a few blocks from the Independence Hall Visitors Center, The Liberty Bell, The Betsy Ross House, Independence Hall and the Museum of Illusion. It's also close to both SEPTA and PHLASH bus stops.
MoreThe Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District is in a fantastic location, which was easily the best part of my stay. Unfortunately, the hotel itself needs a significant refresh.Prior to my arrival, I had arranged and received approval for an early check-in before the standard 4 p.m. time, including approval from the Area Sales Manager. When I arrived, however, the room was not ready and I was simply told that check-in was at 4 p.m. That was disappointing, particularly since the earlier arrival had already been approved.Once I got into the room, it felt somewhat musty and the overall condition left a lot to be desired. The mattress seemed well past its useful life. It had noticeable divots and uneven areas from previous use, so you would essentially fall into the worn spots while sleeping. The bathroom also needed updating. There were areas where the wallpaper was coming away from the wall, chipped paint, and other signs of wear. There was also no bathroom exhaust fan.Noise was another issue. The hotel is across the street from a fire station, so some of that is obviously outside the hotel's control, but combined with the normal Philadelphia street noise, I was very glad I brought earplugs. The need for renovation wasn't limited to the room. The hallway carpeting was fraying and bubbling in areas, which added to the overall impression that the property is overdue for updates.Again, the location is excellent, especially if you want to stay in the Historic District. Unfortunately, given the condition of the room and common areas, I probably would not stay here again unless the hotel undergoes a substantial renovation.
