tripadvisorWanting to take my granddaughters to pick berries over their spring break, I checked Yelp to get the address of Atkinson's Farm. Read reviews about bad customer service there, and they are true. The tall, brown-haired cashier woman was downright nasty. The facility posts that visitors can bring their own containers, but this is what they do not post: They charge $3. just to enter the field. If you brought plastic bags for your container, you're told they do not allow them, then offered yellow plastic buckets. But you cannot borrow them, you must buy them. One in our group had brought a straw basket, so we opted to use just that. Later, I set the basket on counter, the woman weighed them, and I paid $36 for them. Before leaving, I mentioned it would be helpful if their rules were posted so visitors would know to not bring plastic bags so they wouldn't have to pay for buckets. The woman immediately turned hostile and snapped if I didn't like the rules, then don't come back! I tried explaining I had no issue with their rules, only the fact that they are not posted. She kept on snapping if I didn't like the rules, then don't come back, just don't come back! in front of my young grandkids. No employer would allow staff to be so blatantly rude, so I presume she's related to the business owners. Previous reviewers have mentioned her, yet she's still there. I will take her good advice to not go back!
MoreWe went to this farmers market to support local farmers. The prices are a bit high but what really was the shocker was the 3.5% service fee added to our bill. Not sure what that is for?
MoreTerrible place, scammed and cheated...beware old lady cashier!2 small baskets she charged me more than 50 bucks..She told me before picking 4.99$/ 1 bucket ! But after that she said 4.99$ a pound? Stay away her ..farm
MoreI went with my 2 teenagers to find something to do with school closed. The people were very nice and the fields were beautiful. We had fun picking, but I thought it was overpriced. We picked 3 buckets and got 1 head of cabbage and it was $67! The buckets are $1.50 each but you get to keep them. Although the strawberries are big and beautifully red, the flavor is poor to mediocre at best. They are very watery and have almost no flavor. I was disappointed because I was looking for that sweet and fresh strawberry taste. Honestly, the berries at the grocery are better! They did have local vegetables and they looked nice, priced competitively with Kroger/HEB. The cabbage I bought was good.
MoreThey set up at different farmers markets but they also have a market onsite to buy their fresh veggies. They also have strawberry fields where you can pick your own berries! Go early though bc the berries go fast!
