tripadvisorThis is the Chuck Ford Lakeside Park. This is the place for fishing and little boats as well. There are many birds in the water. We both liked the Chuck Ford Lakeside Park The birds continued to follow us. There was a basketball as well.
MoreThis is definitely for the locales .. if you have just a short wee time in Tucson let the locals have this place not worth the drive ... about a mile walk around a pond that need cleaning up for sure AND don’t sit on the ground ... this is cactus country.... i have been pulling cactus thorns all afternoon.... if you are local a nice separation for the busy city ...
MoreNice park to walk dogs. There are some good playground areas for kids as well. Great views of Rincons and Catalina Mountains. Relatively well maintained and the city is making a few improvements to it this year.
MoreThe lake is dark green with dead fish floating in the water. When it rains all the oil from the street flows into the lake. All of the trees are dying. The only part worth visiting are the playgrounds.
MoreThis relatively small urban park sports a 14 acre lake, offering urban fishing and the use of small boats. There is a plastic playground thingie for kids, a couple of basketball courts, that sort of thing, gazebos with picnic tables, restrooms, and lots of grass and some trees. It is a good place to sit on a bench and talk to a friend. I have done that. I usually go there to look for interesting birds. The lake attracts unusual species from time to time, and also has its own collection of urban birds, including Great-tailed Grackles, doves, Vermilion Flycatchers, a hummingbird or two, Verdins, egrets, herons, cormorants, coots, and Mallards, both wild and domestic. I have seen pelicans white and brown, terns, gulls, and other birds that are far from home. The park is reasonably clean, although I don't care that much for the smell of the water. I probably wouldn't fish there, even though the city tests the water before allowing people to fish. There are paved paths alongside the east and west shores, but it is fed by a local creek which is dry most of the year, so there is a dam on either end. Parking is on the east and west sides. Wheelchairs can access parts of it, especially if you don't mind a fairly steep descent to the lake. Picnic areas do not require the steep descent. It is a good place for a family picnic, or for kids to play. There are very small areas where the trees are pretty much wild vegetation, but these are not large. Still, you can see a few birds there that prefer the desert, and you can see Round-tailed Ground Squirrels, including babies in season, which is always fun. Be careful not to step into one of their holes and twist your ankle! If you prefer a wilder setting, Lincoln Park is just to the south, also off Pantano, and sports a path or two through natural vegetation, a tree-lined course alongside the creek, with plenty of shade. Birds are harder to find there, but it is a pleasant place for a stroll, and the path extends a reasonable distance.
