tripadvisorI was in Tokyo for four months and I got a gimmicky hat that said Tokyo in Harajuku and I showed my Japanese professor and she laughed at it!! I am a fan of merch and I can lie to someone and say I am from a rural village in Iceland but visited NYC even though I live in NYC!! I went here a few days ago and looked at the NYC merch and I got socks with the subway lines on them!!
MoreI am a little biased because I work for the City. But this store has quality souvenirs, not the tacky, typical ones you might find for cheaper in Chinatown. Definitely worth a visit if you are a tourist or if you are a New Yorker wanting to buy a NYC gift. I love the restaurant grade tshirts and onesies; the Firefighter's calendar (featuring both men and women!); and various mugs with City service insignia.
MoreWe went to the tiny, little CityStore twice recently, once to get New York City Fire Department calendars autographed by firefighters at one of their calendar signings, and once just for fun. At the calendar signing, the store was so crowded because of its tiny size, but it was well worth the wait to meet the 2 firefighters autographing the calendars. The calendars are excellent beefcake: one side it's handsome men and the other side attractive women, all firefighters. The 2 firefighters we met were charming, kind, exemplary firefighters and it was an honor to meet them and thank them for their service. There were also some adorable stuffed animals in the store, which were a bit pricey for their size, especially the soft, Aurora World brand New York City squirrels. There are metrocard holders at a reasonable price. They have beautiful depictions of some New York City sights, such as Grand Central Station. There are New York City books of interest there, too, and lovely tote bags. The hours are very limited: 10 to 5 Monday through Friday; closed on the weekends. If you're in the area on a weekday, it could be fun to visit. There's New York City memorabilia aplenty, but my favorite is the Department of Sanitation teddy bear (which is out of stock at the moment), a wonderful Steven Smith bear. The salespeople were always pleasant. It's within walking distance of City Hall Park and St. Paul's Chapel. There is a website you could peruse for merchandise before visiting, if you want.
MoreGood place to stop for tourist information, souvenirs, and gifts. Everyone working here was nice and pleasant.
MoreWe tried to find this place as we had read a few things about how good it was. We were down in the area and having breakfast in Deeneys and so looked it up and located where it was. Having walked most of the day we headed there at the back end of the afternoon only to find it was closed! Not sure if this is permanent or just Easter Sunday but leaving the review in case it has shut for ever and wouldn't want anyone else to trudge there and be disappointed so check before you go please
