Accessible via South Midland Drive, the I-20 Wildlife Preserve was established in January of 2013. Located just off the I-20 (thus the name), the preserve incorporates of more than 30 acres (12.14 hectares) of Texan playa. Just about 7 miles (11.26 kilometers) from Midland International Airport, I-20 Wildlife Preserve boasts of a rich biodiversity native to Texan wetland, that includes several birds, butterflies, badgers, bobcats, foxes, and rabbits, to name a few. About 20,000 square feet (1858.06 square meters) of the preserve is dedicated to Jenna Welch Nature Study Center. Open all year, I-20 Wildlife Preserve offers a range of educational programs, UG research programs and activities such as hiking, bird-watching and such.

tripadvisorPerfect winter walk through the wildlife preserve. Well maintained. Loved the blinds to watch the water fowl. The contrast of colors was amazing!
MoreMy son lives in Midland and we go here every time we’re in town to visit him. We enjoy this as it is a bit of a respite and we always see wildlife. It is very different season to season. Yes, it does get dry in the summer, but this is the desert. There are some interesting facts about plants and animals along the 1.5 mile path. The path is level and easy to walk on. There are several blinds from which to watch birds. This weekend we saw lots of lizards, dove and rabbits. We saw lots of evidence of coyotes, but Wiley was in hiding. The real downside is the proximity to I20 and the resulting noise from trucks. Not much to be done about that.
MoreThere is no toilet in women’s bathroom. Men’s toilet not working. And nasty. It also would be nice for someone to clear a small bit on the sides of the trail. Could be a great place but in bad need of TLC.

MoreWhat an incredible, surprising beauty right here in the desert! It is always clean and full of wildlife! The entire trail is about a mile and a half I believe but it doesn't feel that way. It is beautiful even in the winter. Great for workouts and families. No bikes, strollers or pets allowed but I can understand why...to keep the wildlife protected. It is a must see...another world in the middle of the desert!
