tripadvisorVery disappointed with the two apple pies that we purchased at Pine Tree apple orchard. We brought them to two different families for dessert and disappointed with the lack of taste. Our host at both events were very honest and said that they too were disappointed with the lack of flavor they were expecting a delicious apple pie purchased from an apple orchard.
MoreExtremely beautiful, overlooking a lake, vast array of apple related items for sale - apples themselves, various baked goods. Also opportunity to walk among the trees and learn about the process of picking apples and getting them ready for sale. This is a long established orchard about 10 miles north of downtown St Paul.IF possible, please go there during the week. It becomes really, really busy on beautiful fall weekends.
MoreIn the past I would have given this a 4.5 or 5 star as I have been coming here for decades yet this year there are drastically reduced opportunities for activities. Even a few minor changes could offer fun things for kids (e.g. some corn hole toss, other simple games etc.). We went on the weekend, no hayrides, no ponies, and lacking in some of the other activities they usually have. That said, they often have the some of the best apples in the Minnesota orchards!
MorePine tree Apple orchard is always a fun spot to visit. Picturesque setting, you can stroll through the orchard. They have a great assortment of apple varieties. My favorite items are their fabulous baked goods! Apple pie, apple cider donuts, apple rollovers, so very good. Friendly and helpfull staff.
MoreWhat once was a fun and memorable place to go, is now boring and lack luster. I’ve been going to Pine Tree every October since birth. 28 years. It was a family tradition that I wanted to continue into my adulthood. But… that ended this year. It all started when they didn’t have enough staff for their wagon rides. One of the classic attractions that Pine Tree offered in which you could hear about the orchard’s history and enjoy a ride through the trees. Gone. Or at least so sporadically available that when you planned to go, it was a dart throw away from disappointment. Covid hit everyone hard, but post-Covid, they continued to disappoint. One of my favorite things was to order a hot cider early in the morning from their cafe and stroll around the fields in the cool fall air. Gone. It’s been several years now that the cafe has not been open. Sampling apples was also really fun since you want to know which bundle of apples to buy that year. Obviously during Covid you shouldn’t be able to free for all it out in the open, but they didn’t even offer an alternative post-Covid. Finally, this year they no longer offer Carmel apples. This has been a yearly tradition for my family. On checkout, you could pick up some Carmel apples to take home. Well, the lady outside of pine tree that made them retired. However for some reason they didn’t feel it was important to continue this tradition on their own.Overall, there really isn’t much to do anymore. They have a corn maze and pumpkin patch, and some times you’ll get the wagon ride, but that’s it. It used to be fun walking around with some treats from the cafe and taking a wagon ride around the orchard and sampling apples and taking a Carmel Apple home, but they just don’t care enough to keep these traditions alive anymore. One might blame short staff, which they do, but come on… it’s only short if you don’t offer good pay. There is no shortage of teens available for weekends in the area. I wish I could say I’ll be going back, but this tradition will end this year. More recently, my wife and I arrive to no wagon ride, no cafe, and no Carmel apples. Not even a stroll around the orchard. They had a run that morning. We walked in the building to see if the cafe was reopened after Covid. No. We went to sample some apples. No. We went to checkout with an Apple turnover which I love, no Carmel apples at the checkout. We walked out, got back in our car, and left. Heartbreaking
