tripadvisorFour friends and I took a private 3 hour tour with Captain Mike on 6/20/25. What a great experience! We all loved it. We are not birders and 3 of the group are not even avid photographers, but we all thought the tour was great. Mike is a great guide with a wealth of knowledge. He has tremendous understanding of the eagles and ospreys allowing him to predict how they will fly in to grab fish from the river. The photographic opportunities are great for up close eagle, osprey and heron portraits as well as bird in flight and action shots of the birds diving for fish. Just a wonderful experience all around. Thank you Mike!
MoreWhat a fantastic tour! Captain Mike is very knowledgeable about the James River and he is especially knowledgeable when it comes to the bald eagles that call the James River home. We saw many eagles, osprey, blue herons, a very young fawn, and ducks. My friend and I are very glad we did this!
MoreThe ENTIRE trip was beyond, far beyond, awesome!! Capt. Mike made sure that we all had an amazing time and his passion for the James River and his customers was profound!! I will DEFINITELY be doing this again!!!
MoreThis was my most exciting eagle experience ever! Captain Mike is extremely knowledgeable of the area, and knows the eagles of the James River. There is no way you could be disappointed with the excitement and face to face experience he affords you with these beautiful birds. He does everything possible to ensure that the photographers in the group will have the best light, and best angles to capture the best shots possible. I will definitely be back.
MoreSeeing bald eagles has been on our bucket list and since coming to Richmond VA, home of the James River, we were excited to be going out on the James with Captain Mike. He started spotting eagles immediately. We were able to see so many different birds while on the river. We also watched carefully to see a sturgeon jumping up from the water - apparently they also are seen doing this quite frequently. Captain Mike got the boat safely close to the eagles. They are truly majestic. We learned a lot of great information about the birds, the habitat and the river. I am ready to go again!!!
