Baker's Candies Candy & Sweets

In 1987, Kevin Baker founded Baker's Candies Inc and revolutionized the mass production of gourmet chocolates. His extensive engineering background allowed him to create confections at a fraction of the cost incurred by even his largest competitors. That savings was poured into finding the best ingredients available. The result was a series of affordable meltaway-grade chocolates that were in a class with the world's finest and an instant hit with connoisseurs everywhere. Today, Baker's Candies Inc remains the Midwest's premier chocolate manufacturer. The family-owned company, which operates in a 25, 000-square-foot plant located in Greenwood, Nebraska, still pursues that same passion for world-class chocolates. It's a passion we hope to share with you as you learn more about our company, our products and, most importantly, the location of your nearest Baker's Candies

I caveat my review on a few things. I'm a transplant to the West Coast of Iowa, living just across the river from Omaha, for just over 5 years. I've started making the journey to Lincoln, NE, a few times a month for the past 1.5 years (so easy drive going on the I-80. I've also shopped in my local grocery stores and noticed the wrapped foil candies in stores during the holidays (never really understood what they were, nor tried them, but recognized them). It wasn't until I saw a Baker's Candies ad pop up on my Facebook feed about a new location opening (where, I don't know) that I was finally intrigued to do some Googling. Low and behold, wow, did not realize that there was a Baker's Candies along my I-80 route to/from Lincoln just a few minutes off my route. On my trip back from Lincoln this weekend with spouse and pooch in tow, we stopped into this Baker's Candies. Shocked by a few things. First, it's location just off the I-80 by just a few minutes (how did I not know this!... no signage, is my guess). Ample parking and shade -- as we were on our way home and it was a bit warm, spouse stayed outside with pooch. The outside of the store is deceptive. I was amazed at how HUGE the store is. Ample room to move around. Grab yourself a cart or basket. I intended not to get much but ended up grabbing a basket. I didn't take the amount of time I really wanted to spend in the store because of my spouse and pooch, so was quickly walking through the aisles as fast as I could. Loved the fact that you could grab yourself a cup of free Kool-Aid while shopping (another nod to Hastings, NE). The array and assortment of Nebraska made products in addition to Baker's Candies was not just convenient but pretty awesome. It gave us more ideas of other places we wanted to visit in NE. Loved the selection of Baker's chocolates and the fact that you could buy them in an array of assortments, bulk in one flavor, several options of variety packs, lots of taffy, nuts, an array of other candies that will send any child into a sugar high! Loved that they also had sugar-free chocolates as well. Make sure you pay attention to the key to breaking down the vast array of foiled chocolates. A friend had suggested the silver wrapped ones because they are chocolate and caramel, but trust me, if you don't find one you absolutely love, you're doing something wrong. Staff was available and readily tried to keep the checkouts moving. Staff was friendly and courteous and had to laugh at my comments that I really did not know about their location having lived and driven by Greenwood, NE, for quite a bit. Definitely need more signage from and along the I-80 warning of your wonderful chocolate shops. Tout the square footage of your beautiful shop because it is massive. Again, loved the aspect that you also carry other local products like cheese, meats, popcorn to name just a few. Don't miss this stop when driving through NE along the Lincoln - Omaha Interstate 80. I have to admit, I was taking everything in and wanted to take pictures, but was worried about my pooch (and spouse) outside. Oh, and loved all of your photo opportunities in the store and outside. We will be returning to your location. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I had my doubts about how much variety there could really be, but I was wrong. So much different stuff, not just their chocolates. Which are actually enough on their own. The meltaways are delicious. Lots of salt water taffy varieties, too.

We stopped by on our way from Omaha to Lincoln. It is a big place with tons of variety. Includes candy, jerky, jams, sauces, and more. You will pay a pretty penny, but the kids never had more fun looking at all the candy varieties. We probably spent 30 minutes or so inside shopping. Fun stop.
