tripadvisorWe enjoyed talking with the owner, Preston Miller, so much! He was great. He has some really beautiful pieces for sale. The store is like a little museum, plus he's salvaged some important historical buildings that he's moved to his property and you can see them as you're entering the store. He's been there since the 70's, I think he said. You will want to check and make sure he's open and then use the buzzers on the front of the building to let him know you're there. Be patient. It takes a minute for him to come from his place, but he'll be there shortly to let you in. Good books too!
MoreI had high hopes based on the previous reviews however our visit was very disappointing. They have a lot of nice things in the store and the buildings look like they have lots of stories to tell. However the owner is beyond cranky and not inviting at all. He didn’t have the museum open and said he wouldn’t open it. He did mentioned that he likes to see the money....we left.
MoreWhen we stepped out of our car, we saw wooden homes and a wagon that was falling apart. These were built in 1870. It was used as a bunkhouse. The logs were fitting together. They call this the Saddleback construction. The Four Winds Indian Trading Post were selling books, artifacts, jewelry and more. They were very friendly. Worthwhile to see!
MoreWhenever I see the word trading post, I'm all in. But they are not all created equal. However, this is the best one so far that I have ever visited in the U.S. They have authentic items set in historic buildings facing the Mission mountain range. You sort of expect to see someone churning butter on the porch. The owners themselves are extremely knowledgable about the native American and pioneer culture of the area and have a keen eye for items that are truly collectible. They have written books on historic items. We even get post cards of Preston and Carolyn in period dress. A must see for all of us who love cultural treasures and want a priceless Montana experience.
MoreOwners live on site so they will meet you to open the store. Great products in the store. worth the call.
