The Institute of American Indian Arts Museum is located downtown, one block east of the plaza and across the street from the St. Francis Cathedral. It's the only museum in the world that highlights contemporary Native American arts. Carl Beam, James Lavadour, Gerald Clarke, and Tom Fields are but a small sampling of artists whose works are on display. The museum often features exhibits of IAIA students and faculty. Other events include lectures, book signings and children's activities.

Reviews
tripadvisorThis was totally a waste of money we paid $20 and left in 10min. There were 2 small exhibitions downstairs and upstairs jewellery.Don't waste your money
MoreI left loving how Indian design and modern contemporary design have merged. The work in paintings, clothing, and jewelry were exquisite. For me, this was a great artistic find.
MoreI agree totally with the previous review. It took us 15 minutes to visit the uninteresting galleries for $10 each. Don't waste your time or your money
MoreWe were really anticipating this museum, as we love native american arts, and the museum trumpets that it was ranked 3rd best Arts Museum in the nation by USA Today. Considering the rather steep admissions cost ($10/person), it was a profound disappointment. There were only a handful of very small galleries (probably no more than 5 rooms total), and half of them focused on art from Greenland or South America rather than the indigenous artists of the American Southwest. It was a wholly uninviting museum, and you have to pass by an incredibly number of rooms marked Private--Staff Only. We were able to see the entire museum in less than 15 minutes. We saw far more impressive examples of contemporary native american artwork just browsing the galleries on Canyon Rd.
MoreThe Jean Lamarr exhibit is wonderful. She has an incredible variety of materials at her disposable all expertly assembled into poignet works of art.I also loved seeing the IAIA current student and faculty work. Such new and innovative pieces.
