tripadvisorThis merry-go-round was carved in 1914, by Stein & Goldstein. Its original location was in Canton, Ohio, and moved to its present location in 1974. The Wurlitzer band organ sounded like from the soundtrack of The Sting. I sat on a horse that moves up and down to a waltz. Tickets are inexpensive. The extra space can accommodate birthday parties, and weddings.
MoreBeautifully restored historic carousel, in the middle of Bushnell Park. Opening hours are limited so make sure to check their website first,
MoreThis is an absolutely gorgeous carousel. We’re members of the National Carousel Association, and we planned our vacation time around riding it. Made in 1914, this is one of only 3 carousels made by Stein and Goldstein still in existence. Their horses are known to be the biggest on carousels. And at 10 mph, so high up, you get a bit of a feel of the thrill ride carousels used to be considered. These fierce looking horses are beautifully decorated and very well kept up. They have a very enthusiastic staff here. Parking around the park is very hard to find, but we found a few places.
MoreTook a 7 and 11 yr old on Wednesday 6.22.22 and it was free to ride as many times as you wanted (typically $2pp). I paid to park on the street but was told free parking at the capital. The staff working at the carousel was friendly, energetic, and engaging. They talked to the kids, told them what to do and where to go. The ride itself was longer than I expected. Nice surprise. The ponies are absolutely beautiful. And we all had a wonderful time.
MoreThe Carousel is historic and beautiful. Regrettably, the Bushnell Park Foundation took over its operation in late summer 2021. We went to see the carousel last week, but we were told that we were not welcome because there was a birthday party in the pavilion in spite of a large sign advertising that they were open 12 Noon to 5:00 PM. Nothing on their web site indicates that they would be close for birthday parties. The previous operators of the carousel, The New England Carousel Museum, always allowed the public to view and ride the carousel even when there was a birthday party. We will not go again after the treatment we received.
