tripadvisorWe got the last tour of the season and it was my wife and I and one other couple. Meredith who owns the ranch was our guide. She is an authentic mule lover! She competed with mules against horses in equestrian events around the country and was responsible for getting mules to be accepted in competitions. We learned a lot about mules and her training methods set a new standard around the world. We got a full tour of the stables and all her mules who were obviously well taken care of. She also has an extensive bronze statue collection mostly of her mules on the grounds of the over 100 acres. We also go to see saddles that were beautiful. If you go be sure to pay the extra for the longer tour. It's worth it and if you love horses this is for you. You will get a new appreciation for mules!
MoreOur group of 20+ friends had a scheduled tour of the Lucky Three Ranch. This promised to be something different from museum or art gallery tours, since the ranch specializes in mules and donkeys. My only experience with mules was seeing them on farms in North Carolina when I was very young. As an adult, I had encountered wild burros (donkeys} while backpacking in New Mexico. Most in our group expected to see a few of these animals in stables or corrals. Boy, were we surprised to arrive at a pristine facility that looked as if it might be a high-end vacation spa. Ranch owner Meredith Hodges greeted us and began our tour with a video explaining the ranch’s history centered on its mules and donkeys. Starting with one mule and one donkey in 1980, Hodges has bred, trained and successfully entered her mules in competitions against horses in national and international events. After the video, Hodges discussed how her recognition of the mules’ intelligence and her training using kindness and patience – and not harsh treatment - has produced many champion “long ears.” She then answered all our questions. We next toured the grounds to see an impressive collection of realistic statues of some of her mules and donkeys. We finished our tour by meeting mules in their neat stalls and outside in corrals. Our visit to Lucky Three Ranch was one of the most instructive and enjoyable tours I’ve ever taken. Hodges and her staff make this a special Colorado experience. Many of us will now think differently about mules and donkeys.
MoreI took my RV group that was staying in Loveland to the Lucky Three Ranch and everyone had a great time. Very informative and fun! The beautiful grounds and sculptures were a treat. Meredith's passion for these mules and donkeys was inspiring. Our group loved it and many are planing to go back with their families! I would highly recommend the tour! Mark
MoreThis ranch is incredible! Meredith and staff are truly amazing at what they do! The tour was wonderful and so uplifting to listen to someone who is so passionate and good at what they do. The sculpture garden is magnificent and I highly recommend you take the tour that includes that. The ranch is very clean (not a weed to be found) and we commented on how we didn't even smell the animals, yet they were right in front of us. This tour is definitely worth the time and money!
MoreThe team at Lucky Three shared their fabulous sculptures and awesome mules with a group of members from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County. We even got to meet Jasper. They really made our visit a very positive experience!
