I need to preface my remarks by saying I am not a fisherman, but I have made side trips through Hidden Lakes Trout Farm Park (on longer hikes around Whalon Lake to the Bolingbrook Bikeway Trail and the parks along it) every few days for several months. Depending on the time of the day and day of the week, there are always fishermen there, from a handful to twenty or more, and they always seem to be having a good time. There's a good mix of fellows from all backgrounds and walks of life, sometimes accompanied by their wives and/or children. I enjoy walking over the bridge from Whalon Lake Forest Preserve, over the East Branch of the DuPage River, and seeing the landscape of scattered trees and large ponds or small lakes, on my way to the Bolingbrook Bikeway Trail, and passing amongst the groups of fishermen quietly trying to reel in a catch. The Bolingbrook Park District stocks the ponds with trout in April and October and catfish in May and September. The Tackle Box Bat Shop sells snacks as well as bait. A fishing permit is valid from April 1st of the current year to March 31st of the following year.

You're supposed to pay to fish here, but a lot of people don't pay and still fish. There should be some type of enforcement. The portable toilets could be kept cleaner and in better repair. There should be more encouragement for fishermen to clean up their fishing line - there are some notices but there is still too much discarded monofilament line kicking around. There are lots of birds along the surrounding trails, so that's nice. The place does get flooded when the river is high, so check water levels before visiting or going for a walk. There's a nice long paved trail that extends 2.5 miles total. Watch for bikes if you're walking.

I visit the park when ever I have some spare time. It’s a great one for a walk or a bike ride but especially the fall season brings in the Gods fireworks. The colors are breathtaking. I have also seen folks fishing, so if that is ur “gig”, go visit and have fun
