Downers Grove Park District, founded in 1946, provides a variety of recreational programs, facilities, parks, open spaces and natural areas. It offers a range of adult athletic leagues, which includes basketball, volleyball and softball leagues. The district also provides a range of amenities that include baseball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing ponds, pavilions, walking and jogging trails and a concession facility. It also provides a nine-hole public golf course, driving range, community garden plots, a historical museum, community recreation center, gymnasium, indoor pools, and horseshoe and sand volleyball courts. The Downers Grove Park District manages more that 40 park sites spread over an area of over 500 acres. Its office is located in Downers Grove, Ill.

We enjoyed the opportunity to attend the Tuesday night concerts in Fishel Park this July. It is a large park, but I must say get there by 5:30 p.m. to secure a spot in the lawn. The entertain is fantastic! We do have issues with hearing at times with the speakers used, not sure if they are not loud enough for the space of the park or is it the families attending are so loud with conversation and children playing adding to the distorted sound. Being very popular among families it appears everyone is there to socialize instead of listening to the music. Last week we even observed not many people even clap, which means they are not paying attention to the performers. It is truly a lovely event to attend and thank the DG Park District for providing this weekly summer entertainment.
MoreVisited several parks and playgrounds with our grandchildren while visiting family in Downers Grove. Parks and forest preserves are all well maintained, clean, and suitable for all ages.
MoreBeing that I live very close to this recreation center...it was very convenient for us to go and workout. However, it was very pricey for the 3 of us a month.... considering classes were not included. I think they should definitely reduce their monthly membership fee..especially for residents... for the price..we could probably go to lifetime fitness! Would consider signing back up for a better rate with classes included.
MoreBeautiful and quaint village near Chicago. We found a parade, Irish pub and delightful afternoon! There is a small cemetery devoted to the local families with several Civil War markers. Very interesting
