Loan Closet is a pioneer in sustainability, predating the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Campaign. It’s the only community resource in Santa Barbara County offering free, short-term loans of durable medical equipment (DME) like wheelchairs and walkers. Serving over 4,000 residents annually, the Loan Closet saves usable DME from ending up in the landfill and saves the community more than $1 million each year. The program relies on donations, with all equipment sanitized and refurbished. VNA Health staff ensure proper fitting and use of the DME, with clients often expressing deep appreciation for the service.
