tripadvisorDon't let the price scare you! All I can say is, do it. It's ABSOLUTELY worth it! You learn SO much about Walt & everything that goes into being Disney. We learned SO much about him and his relationship with his wife as well as all the details that goes into being at Disneyland. Got to see their apartment. And all I can say is WOW. By the end of the tour, I was in tears. I felt SO much more attached after all that we learned on our tour. We tell ANYONE that's a Disney fan, to treat themselves. They will NOT be disappointed. Lunch was provided and a beautiful pin was gifted to each of us as well. SO worth it!
MoreWe were thrilled to finally be able to take this tour, and were glad we did, but there are some serious negatives. The tour lasts 3 1/2 hours, needlessly. It was very light on actual information; rather, our guide filled the time with a ride of their choice, Moments with Mr. Lincoln, lunch, and annoying commentary. There was no new information; the only reason to take the tour is to see Mr. Disney's apartment. We interacted with 5 different tour guides, all of them arrogantly pejorative. Our main guide was so full of herself, she couldn't stop telling us about how great she is for being a cast member. She couldn't answer questions posed to her, and didn't seem to know as much as we do about Walt Disney, yet she was continually trying to show off, when she wasn't complaining about her costume or the weather. The tour was all about her and her privileged position. As we walked, she held out her skirt like she was a princess. It was just so unbelievably unprofessional compared to Guest Services staff of the past. The guides for the apartment tour were likewise condescending. The main apartment guide was irreverent toward Mr. Disney, which was completely out of line. She was sarcastic and demeaning toward us. The guides made lots of private jokes among themselves. We just overlooked all of them as necessities to being able to see some things we wouldn't otherwise see, but it hurt to hear them joking about the Disneys' taste and habits. The information about Mr. Disney is readily available in books, like Walt's Disneyland. We had thought there would be more in depth information shared about the railroad, for example, but it was all just summary. The lunch could have been omitted; it was a time waster. Everyone around us had trouble eating their sandwiches because they were so dry. The macaroon was so hard we all made jokes about trying to bite it. This is not Disney caliber. The tour could be cut down to no more than 2 hours by omitting a ride, lunch, and Moments with Lincoln. People who take the tour are already knowledgeable about Mr. Disney, so more details and history should be added. All of the annoyances pale, though, in light of being able to see the Disney apartment. Walt was quite a man, an inspiration. To see his home was very special to this longtime Disney family. On this point alone, we do recommend the tour.
MoreI liked this tour, but I’m not sure it was quite as good as I was hoping it would be. The positives: you get to hear some funny stories about Walt and the park, which was interesting to hear; you go in to Walts apartment, and you get to go on one ride (Alice in Wonderland), you also ride the train for 2 stops which was good to rest your feet. And the guide was lovely. - The not so great: It was great to be able to go up in to walts apartment but it would have been nice to take a couple of our own pictures, the ones I got taken by the staff member have the sun shining in behind making the quality of the pic not great, and we’re made to stand in front of the iconic lamp that you see in the window, so you don’t see it in your photo.- I would also have preferred to have had a proper headset, rather than a single headpiece as it could at times be hard to focus on what I was heading in one ear when all the chaos was going on around us.- I had the roast beef roll and coconut macaroon and I wouldn’t choose either of them again.
MoreI would definitely recommend taking this tour if this is your first time at Disneyland. We walked around and listened to different audio clippings of Walt. The best part was our tour guide Maddie. She was fantastic!! She made everyone feel comfortable and it felt like a genuine experience. I learned a lot of new things on the tour. It would be neat if they did an imagineers tour based on the show. Being able to see everything in person made everything feel so magical! We received a pretty decent lunch. I had the holiday salad and it was yummy!! The pin was incredible!! We wish we learned more of Walt’s influence on the rides. Other than that, I would definitely recommend the tour!!
MoreIf you are truly a fan of Walt Disney, the individual, then this tour is a must for you. You will hear stories, family tidbits, and a glimpse into how an improbable dream became a reality. What I love about Disneyland, is that this is the only park that literally has Walts' finger and footprints all over it. The tour itself is approximately three and a half hours long and features a lunch break, where you preselect some tasty options from the Jolly Holly Bakery, prior to you beginning your journey. It was all really good too! After lunch, your group will venture into Mr. Disney's personal apartment that he used for himself and his family. This is worth the price of admission on it's own. A docent will share some of the stories and original features of this petite but fascinating place, and then usually there will be an opportunity for someone to take a quick photo of you and your group before you exit. You are not allowed to take pictures of your own inside the apartment once you are there. There reasoning for it made perfect sense when it was explained to us. But here's the element that makes the Disney magic come alive on this tour. It's the guide who directs you on your journey. In our case, it was a wonderful, personable, individual named Maddie. She literally made you feel like you were part of the family. Her knowledge and expertise and her ability to answer random questions from us, literally took the experience to another level. You could tell Maddie had a sincere passion for what she was sharing, and her comittment to making sure we were having a good experience, was sincere and genuine. That's all part of what makes the Disney brand so special. Thank you again Maddie for creating such a memorable moment for us!. Again, this tour will make you nostalgic and appreciative of all that Walt Disney accomplished. Don't pass up this opportunity!
