Subterranean Books is a favorite bookstore for many bookworms who appreciate more of an underground culture. You'll still find some classics, but you'll also find fun novelty books, great art collections, and books by authors who are more popular with the underground crowd than the mainstream. The bookstore is small, but it is packed with some great finds. You'll be surprised how long you can spend perusing the shelves and adding books to your wish list. You can also pick up some nice notebooks and stationery. This store accepts credit cards, but as it is a small, independently owned operation, they ask that you use cash whenever possible.

tripadvisorCool, independent store. Lots of books to choose from. Friendly, knowledgeable, and diverse staff.
MoreMy wife and I always like to visit bookstores when we are touring. Very nice independent book store. Well laid out with a large selection.
MoreWhenever we visit a city we try to visit independent bookstores. But when I researched St Louis I did not find one to visit.Fortunately, I was at Blueprint Coffee in the Loop and walked by Subterranean Books - What a find!!!!The bookstore is wonderful with a great variety of subjects, selection and knowledgeable staff in a traditional bookstore layout. The presentation of books was inviting with what appeared to a focus on books that probably don't get the display they deserve in large bookstores. I bought three but could have bought a dozen.I would add Subterranean Books to our list of the great independent bookstores we have discovered:-Toronto - Ben McNally BooksAsheville - Malaprop's BookstoreNashville - Parnassus Books Chicago - After-Words New and Used BooksSupport your independent bookseller.
