What a sight to behold - glass-walled elevators ascend more than 500 feet (152.4 meters) to the observation deck, providing panoramic views of the city. Standing a total of 750 feet (228.6 meters) tall, the tower was constructed for HemisFair, the 1968 World's Fair and symbolizes the progress made by the people of the Western Hemisphere. Soaring as if calling out to the skies, this imposing tower watches over San Antonio's dynamic cityscape. The tower greatly frames the contemporary tenor of downtown San Antonio and is crowned by an observation deck and a revolving restaurant. A stunning embodiment of architectural magnificence, the Tower of the Americas is an indelible present-day landmark of the country.

tripadvisorDuring all my previous trips to San Antonio, I had never visited the Tower of the Americas, so it was high on our list during our five-day trip this past July. It was a little too far to walk from our downtown hotel, so we drove and used the paid parking lot next to the tower. When we arrived, there was some construction taking place around the property, which made it a little confusing to find the ticket booth. After asking an employee for directions, she pointed us to the correct location outside. We purchased our tickets and headed inside to wait for the high-speed elevator. Before boarding, we stopped for a souvenir photo and were given a card with instructions on how to download the picture later.About 40 seconds later, we arrived at the observation deck. I believe there was a private event taking place that day, as part of the area appeared to be closed off, but we eventually found our way to the outdoor observation section. Since it was a clear day, the views of San Antonio were excellent. We spent some time walking around the deck, taking in the scenery from different angles, and snapping photos before making our way back down.Over the years, we have visited several observation towers, including the Space Needle, the Stratosphere, Sky Costanera, and the Cancun Scenic Tower. While each offers a unique experience and perspective, the Tower of the Americas may be the best value of the bunch. The views were outstanding, the admission price was reasonable, and the overall experience compared favorably with observation towers that cost significantly more.If you're looking for one of the best panoramic views of San Antonio without breaking the bank, the Tower of the Americas is well worth a visit. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip, and I'll be sure to include it on future visits to the city.
MoreExceptional views and clean but long wait for elevator up to the restaurant and observation deck. Bar was understaffed so again longer than typical wait fit service. Drinks though when they can were exceptional
MoreLoved the tower. We ate in the restaurant and was fabulous
MoreI've had better food at the American legion. Sandwich came out over cooked and cold. Manager got us another. Gave us someone else's tab. Fixed that. Two hours wasted.
MoreNot worth the money even with the senior discount. There's absolutely nothing except the windows and the view. No history or information. None of the promised signage or photos to make it more interesting. Renovation is in progress so it was messy too. We regretted the money spent for the observation deck experience. Sorry San Antonio - we loved many other things about your area but this was the one thing we didn't.
