The setting of the Winspear Opera House itself is a visual spectacular. Constructed in 2009, after drawing inspirational from its archaic counterparts, this horseshoe-shaped event venue has hosted a number of musicals and ballet performances. Brought to life because of the glow emanating from its dramatic chandelier, this opera house boasts of impressive acoustics thus making every performance a treat for the viewers.

tripadvisorAs an opera lover, I have visted over 500 performances in over 80 opera houses around the world. At Dallas Opera, where I saw several performances in March 2023, I was suprised to see that all orchestra members were wearing masks while the conductor and the singers did not - and apart from two asians nobody in the audience did. Corona measures were lifted, all regulations lifted, however all the instrumental musicians were wearing masks while performing.Worried about their health I took the opportunity of the interval to talk to the managment. David told me that wearing a mask is free choice of individuals. nobody is forced. Because he bragged about his 7th vaccination, I was still wondering and raised the subject with a musician after the performance. They are not telling you the truth. They make us wear masks. If we dont wear masks, we could not perform.I am sorry but I cannot enjoy a musical performance if I have the feeling that musicians are treated like this. And management that lies on top of it!
MoreIt was a beautiful place, acoustics & stage was great. Seating is comfortable enough. Be sure to pre-book your parking if u don’t fancy walking. There’s parking at nearby church otherwise where u can pay using QR code ($8). Just know that unlike some venue where there’s a big monitor to show the performers face, this doesn’t have one. Be sure to book seats closer if u want to see up close. Also, they have a facility to blur out picture & video hence if u shld want to take photo of the performer —- no chance seeing the face clear (very disappointing). I feel that is ridiculously selfish to not let audience enjoy their idol. We had to join a very long line to use restroom during break, no more time to really go break for u spent all time lining up already to pee.
MoreWinspear Grand Tier Prix Fixe dining - 3 adults/$60 per person. The meal consisted of:A shared charcuterie board with 3 each thin slices of smoked Gouda, Manchego, Sopressata, Capocolla, 3 very thin slices of baguette, 1 strawberry, 1 blueberry, 3 olives, 3 almonds and 3 peanuts. A spinach and Frisée salad with jicama. My salad had 1 piece of Frisée and no jicama. The dressing could have been a strawberry vinaigrette, creating a more cohesive salad. One small slice of baguette on the side of the dish, no butter. We all ordered the beef dish. It was 3 pieces of tri-tip (brisket) set a top tri-color potatoes with steamed Brussels sprouts that had a balsamic drizzle. The potatoes were delicious, the Brussels spouts were undercooked and contained no bacon, as in the description. I am not a fan of brisket, as I don’t care for the fat that runs between the flat and point. A marigold adorned the plate. Having never tried a flower, I did eat it. Very earthy flavor with a bitter after-taste. Dessert was an Amaretto bread pudding with a Baileys chocolate sauce. Being a fan of Amaretto, this bread pudding had no detection of the wonderful almond liqueur. It had a chocolate drizzle and a dollop of whipped cream, but could have benefitted more from a sauce as it was dry.Overall, it was a one-time experience. For the price Winspear needs to step up their game. The service was very good, no less than three people waiting on you. Of course, tip is expected. The meal does include tea, coffe and soda. The waitstaff did offer a to-go beverage for the show, which was nice to have. The glass charger and rose were a beautiful addition to the table.
MoreMy uncle and I came here to see a concert. We both enjoyed getting to see Billy Porter. The service of the staff was excellent. We will be coming back here again.
MoreThe venue was amazing! The lighting, sound, comfort of the seats and drink selection available impeccable! Excited to attend another presentation in the very near future!
