My wife and I have been to several Unicorn performances over the past 10 years, along with visits during the Fringe Festival. Many of the shows have been good (a few were awesomely good), but many others were just 'meh', generally the shows with an agenda trying to get you to think is a specific way, rather than just trying to get you to think. On our last visit about 4 months ago, we found the bathroom situation interesting. Although the bathroom configurations were not changed, they removed all designations of men/women from them. Guys were going into what used to be the women's restroom and gals were going into what used to be the men's restroom complete with open urinals. I saw many looks of confusion as patrons tried to figure out which bathroom to use, and a few looks of frustration at the free-for-all that ensued as both sexes mixed it up in both bathrooms.

My friend and I have been attending plays at the Unicorn Theatre for about two years, however according to the website, it has been in existence for over 30 years. It has two stages - Levin with appx 150 seats, and Jerome with appx 110 seats. You can see and hear very well from all seats and they are comfortable. The Unicorn mission is to present bold, new plays - and usually it is the first time the play has been seen in Kansas City. The plays we have chosen to attend were very good productions and thought provoking. I suggest reading about the play on the website before buying tickets if you might be concerned about subjects and language. The Unicorn wants performing art to be available to all, so on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings unsold tickets can be purchased for Pay what you can. Free parking is in a small lot next to the theater, a larger lot across the street, and on Main Street.
