Missouri Governor's Mansion was built in 1871 as a Governors home and is the oldest surviving one in the country. The view from the mansion is breath taking and it has been registered under the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. A strong influence of Neo Renaissance architecture can be seen in the architecture and the grand stairway inside is one of the major attractions. The walls of the house are decorated with numerous paintings and artifacts that depicts the history of the house.

tripadvisorI don’t know what I expected …maybe I thought they’d schedule tours when the governor was gone and we’d actually see the living quarters. We saw just the small downstairs. The guides were knowledgeable and it is beautiful but 20 minutes in and out. I should have asked more questions. I still would have gone but would have expected less.
MoreWe only saw the first floor but it is very nice. There are portraits of first ladies of Missouri. The docents were dressed up in costume and showed us around. Quite spacious and well decorated.
MoreMy Mother and I visited the mansion during the Christmas candlelight tour. The mansion itself is beautiful, and the Christmas made it even prettier. You only got to tour the first level of the home (minus the kitchen). You walked at your own pace, and there were docents everywhere incase you had a question. The Governor and his wife were home, and you could get your picture taken with them. Santa and Mrs. Claus were also there to have your picture taken with.
MoreVery pretty, and old, has some beautiful gardens to one side. Gov was in residence, so were stopped from taking cell phone pictures of the house... but, the gardens were also worth some nice snapshots
MoreLove the vintage architecture. The docent was informative and was well versed in the Mansion’s history. Would recommend this tour to history buffs.
