The homes and gardens were lovely and the Garden club did a wonderful job hosting. There was a fair amount of walking but it was an easy walk.

My historic walk was great. The guide had a ton of entertaining stories to go along with the historical facts of the area. Loved seeing the beautiful homes and hearing tales of life in the area. It was about 1.5 hours but there was no rush from place to place and it never got boring. Our guide answered all our questions and she managed to find shady spots to stop on the hot summer day.

Get your morning walk and see lots of homes and small gardens at the same time. These colorful houses and beautiful flowers are a great way to start your day in Charleston.

Upon arrival, we walked to the Visitor Centre and joined the 1.5 hour General History bus tour which covered various historic sites and buildings. It was a great introduction to the city. Afterwards, we walked around visiting the market, waterfront harbour and roamed over the old streets taking photos of the beautiful, colourful homes, most were built during the early 18 century when slavery was taking place. Staying at a hotel in the historic downtown area made it convenient for us to walk everywhere (Dec. a few years back).

My husband and I spent several hours on 2 different days exploring the historic area of Charleston. It was our first visit and we are both very interested in architecture and history. I loved reading all the plaques to learn about the history of the homes. We fell in love with the houses, especially the great porches. There are so many to see. Congratulations to Charleston for working so hard to preserve their history. We look forward to returning!Tip: take some water. July was really hot and we didn't find a place to buy any in the neighborhoods.
