An ode to the Thoroughbred history of this city, this spectacular park is an architectural and artistic marvel. Comprised of a track and life-size bronze sculptures of racehorses among other attractions, Thoroughbred Park illustrates the nuances of horse-racing and equestrian activities. Interspersing these striking structures are plaques which pay homage to influential figures associated with the sport in Lexington.

tripadvisorBeautiful bronze sculpture of gorgeous horses racing for the finish line! Great nod to the Kentucky race horse industry!
MoreWe got our 1st look at the park driving by at the corner of Main Street and Midland Ave (US. 60) and loved the statues of the racehorses with the fountains and granite wall behind them. It reminds me of Pioneer Park in downtown Dallas with the cattle statues on the historic cattle drive trail and the quarter horse statues along the old Phillips Creek Ranch in Frisco, Texas. This is a wonderful 2.75 acre park in the heart of Lexington with beautiful walking paths, landscaping and many historic plaques along the way giving you a nice appreciation of the horse racing history of the area dating to the late 1700's.
MoreWe happened upon this lovely park while on a roadtrip through Lexington. We were so drawn to the life size jockeys and horses at a standing race in front of the fountain. We also found numerous horse sculptures around this lovely park. There was one colt laying just in front of a bush when we walked in. There was also a field of young and old horse sculptures just up the staircase behind the fountain. Follow the information plaques behind the fountain up around the loop to read about different notable people in the area.If you walk all the way to the end, you will find a horse monument of Lexington. The fountain is beautiful with its numerous sprayers. There was also a duck mama and her ducklings. She wouldn’t let us get very close, but I did get some nice photos. On a sidenote, there’s also a really cool mural across the street that can be seen from the Lexington statue at the end as well.Dogs allowed and good for kids. Just be sure to pay attention to the “no swimming” signs around the fountain. This is a beautiful spot for tourists (quite a few while we were there) to take photos so you want to make sure and keep it nice. Would definitely purely recommend stopping by!* wheelchair, accessible entrance and parking lot.
MoreStopped in Lexington for lunch and wanted to walk a bit before hitting the road, so we made our way over to Thoroughbred Park on Main Street. This is an interesting horse-race themed park with horse sculptures by Gwen Reardon. The highlight is The Winners Circle with a bronze sculpture of five horses depicting the final yards of a photofinish horse race. Awesome! Walk around it and enjoy it from all sides! As spectators, we never see this view from the racetrack! A section of the park, which has paved walking trails, looks like a Kentucky meadow, with horses grazing and horses resting. Along the trails are historic markers honoring people who were instrumental in the early days of horse racing. Interesting reading!
MoreNice picture taking opportunity for visitors. A good coffee shop next door. Parking may be tough this plan accordingly.
