tripadvisorI stopped at Perry State Park shortly after arriving in Kansas eager for a hike on a Friday afternoon. I parked in the Slough Creek Public use area…I think I paid $5. I hiked the 2.5-mile Thunder Ridge trail. It was a very nice walk with some elevation changes and glimpses of the lake. It was very windy and I did not see too many birds but the solitude was great.
Morenice little beach to take a dip in, plenty of parking, nice views from beach and water, safe as swimming area is cordoned off from the boats, but water is not very clear when we went in July
MoreWe visited Perry Lake for 4 days during the 100 degree days in July, and stayed in Apache Cabin with its glorious AC. The cabins are very close to the swimming beach, and we spent the morning there before heading to the marina for the afternoon. On 2 days we rented wave runners for 2 hours and explored the lake splashing through boat wakes. Driving through the area on the Army Corp of Engineers road for Rock Creek campground took us along the lake shore where we saw: deer, herons, Turkey vultures, fish jumping and Canadian geese. Closer to our cabin we saw turkeys. One day on the highway between the marina and our cabin we saw a plane crop dusting the fields. Wow! Notes about the cabin -It comes with a full size fridge, small sink, small stove with oven, several skillets and pots, a mixing bowl, coffee pot and toaster. There is table service for four including: silverware, plates, bowls and cups. The downside is you have to clean the cabin before you leave, and a broom, mop, bucket and multi-purpose cleaner is provided for you. Another downside is that you have to bring all your own linens, pillows, towels and soaps. The beds are full size, one is a bed and one is a futon.
MoreTook my granddaughter to the swim beach. It was disgusting. The beach was littered with trash and dead fish. The water was murky and scary. The bathhouse was locked, no place to change or use restroom.
