Though the construction of Grace Cathedral was completed in the late 1900s, its history can be traced back to the 1800s when it was established. This beautiful church has a Gothic-revival style architecture and is a place of worship for episcopal Christians.

tripadvisorI was a member of Grace Cathedral from 1971-1975, and now live in New York. The staff at Grace has always been amazing, professional, and caring! Grace Cathedral survived a disastrous fire in November of 1975, destroying the major part of the building. The old Cathedral was beautiful and the reconstructed Cathedral is also beautiful! I visit Kansas annually, and the highlight of my trip is visiting Grace Cathedral and chatting with as many staff members as I am able to. I highly recommend a visit to this amazing church! I know that you will not be disappointed! If you live in the Topeka area and are looking for a church home, I suggest that you give Grace Cathedral a try!
MoreI am not sure why this is under bars and night spots. However, it is a beautiful Episcopal Church that serves as Cathedral for the Diocese of Kansas. The Diocese is only the eastern half of Kansas but covers most of the state's population. I am not sure whether it is the oldest or the largest. However, it is an impressive downtown church in Topeka and only blocks from the Capitol Building. I stopped after visiting the Capitol and took a picture of the exterior.
MoreWe were attending the Halloween silent movie night at the church. A wonderful venue that has been going on for many years. Beautiful church.
MoreAttended a choir concert of the Kansas State Men's Glee Club and Allegro Childrens Choirs of Kansas City as part of their Great Spaces series. Wonderful to see these young people perform with so much energy and pride in a beautiful classic cathedral with fantastic acoustics.
MoreI stopped by late on a Friday afternoon (about 3 o'clock) when I was passing through Topeka during a recent business trip. I figured the cathedral would be closed, but the office was open and a lady (I presume a secretary) was kind enough to let me into the cathedral with no questions asked. This was nice, as you'd be surprised how much churches and cathedrals aren't welcoming to visitors outside of worship times. This is a very nice cathedral that's relatively new. The building itself is about a hundred years old, but it looks much newer. That's because a fire devastated the interior of the cathedral in the 1970s. Everything you see inside dates from then, though they have a done a nice job at using traditional decor. The stained glass windows are very nice. There are also some handy visitor guides. From a secular standpoint, it's worth a visit if you're into architecture. From a religious standpoint, services are somewhat limited. Unfortunately, there's no daily evensong.
