Sitting proudly amid swathes of rolling lawn, the Kansas State Capitol building is a historic landmark. Housing the legislative and executive offices of the state, this grandiose capitol building, crowned by a glorious dome, bears stunning influences of the French Renaissance style of architecture. Construction began in 1886, although it was not declared officially completed until 1903, 37 years later. The dome of the capitol affords majestic views of the city's charming landscape, while its fabric is adorned with a melange of stunning frescoes and murals crafted by eminent artists like John Steuart Curry. An iconic center point of the state's political as well as cultural tenor, the Kansas State Capitol is certainly a crown jewel of Topeka.

tripadvisorAbsolutely stunning state capitol and they have free tours. The lower floor has lots of historic exhibits and the upper floors showcase the rotunda, murals, and beautiful architecture.
MoreHad a wonderful time visiting the Kansas State Capitol. All of the staff and volunteers were kind and helpful. We were on a tour with school children and while it altered the depth of our tour, we learned interesting information that you would not know without the tour. One of our group members walked to the top of the dome and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m too afraid of heights to have done it myself. One aspect of visiting here is parking. It can be difficult to find parking at state Capitol buildings but Kansas provides free parking under their building. Worth your time to visit. Be sure to include a visit to the gift shop while you are there. I loved the jewelry made from their former copper dome.
MoreFree parking a short distance from the building. Free to enter through a security checkpoint. We took the historic tour, which was enlightening. Small museum and gift shop in the basement/visitors' center area. Harley was an excellent tour guide.
MoreThe Kansas State Capitol Building exceeded my expectations. Copper decor and paintings were stunning. Gift shop had some special items. Staff was friendly. Glad me made the stop.
MoreWe had a wonderful tour guide, Austin, who took us on a historical tour, as well as a dome tour. Both tours were very interesting and enjoyable. The tours were free.
