tripadvisorYour typical average mall. Nothing really special to make it stand out. There is a New Orleans Seafood on the mall premises. The food court is small. Some stores include Bath & body,The Children’s Place,Old Navy. I believe JC Penny serves as one of the anchor department store.Ample Parking.
MoreMy wife and I needed a getaway, and she googled fun trips to New Orleans. Most of the things to do there were too expensive, or didn't fit within our family values. So we did what we always do when here at home- we go to a mall, first thing in the morning! This is how we met, after all ; ). I saw that Oakwood was right by the motel we booked, so after our complimentary continental breakfast at our motel we went to the Penney's there. It was quiet except for some local scamps dressed up in quaint colorful New Orleans street clothes costumes, acting out typical lively teen hijinks, and some older men portraying security officers. It was like the Shootout at the OK Corral enactment we saw in Branson Missouri, but much louder, and the language was coarse. The only reataurant still open at the mall when we arrived, Lucy's Day-Old Sushi Shop, closed in the middle of the shootout. That's ok, we had sack lunches anyway.Well, they didn't have the plaid corduroys I wanted, but it was still a nice afternoon. We only had a coupon for one night's stay at the Red Roof in nearby Harvey, so we zapped some enchiladas from the Quik-Trip and headed I am now one of those folks who knows what it means to miss New Orleans.
MoreLACK OF PERSONAL SECURITY! Beware of taking your older, younger, or infirm who can not take care of themselves to Oakwood. The place seems to be overrun by hooligans! Every vulgar, profane word is loudly spoken endlessly by MANY thug types. Abominable Behavior: Many walk around with their bare bottoms and/or underwear completely exposed and the mall staff and security do NOTHING about it. Most of the security are in such bad physical condition that they couldn't do anything about anything, assaults, theft, etc., even if they were a mind to do so, which they aren't. They stand or walk around in groups only interested in talking to each other and ignoring everything around them. They are for show only.
MoreOakwood is NOT family friendly!!! Young black juveniles and adults walk around with the bare bottoms showing and/or their underwear showing and use every type of perverse language. The tables in the food court were filthy, crumbs, paper, condiment residue.
MoreI always find better deals here whenever I’m in town. It’s your typical everyday mall, but they have some of the best sales!
