tripadvisorWe took the old dutch church tour guided by Char and it was truly great, she was really knowledgeable about the history of the town and the phillips family, and just a great tour guide overall! I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone going to SleepyHollow, and we look forward to going back and taking more tours by the historical society!
MoreWe took a trip to Tarrytown this year for the Halloween Festivities and had a little time to spend before the parade started, so we began to walk. Up the hill we went until we came across this historic-looking, interesting building. It was the Tarrytown Historical Society. We carefully entered the doors (I accidentally turned the knob even the sign said Don't. Sorry.), and there was the entire story of Sleepy Hollow. Very interesting. Washington Irving's history, countryside battles, Hessians, violence, and the legend. Check it out. It's worth the walk and a lot of history for $10.
MoreMy family and I traveled 2 hours to experience Jay Ghoul’s house of curiously at Lyndhurst mansion in sleepy hollow, ny. The grounds were beautiful and worth visiting. The “show” was a waste of precious time and WWWAAAYYY OVERPRICED!! I paid $125.00 for a family of 5 to see some tired, old and uninspired “actors “ mangle their own version of the Addams family. This performance was worse than a barrel of Limburger cheese standing out in the hot dessert sun it STUNK that bad!!! The write up on the visit sleepy hollow site promoted this “ show” as entertaining and loads of fun. NOT!! My advise... tour the mansion and the grounds, they are spectacular!!! Spend your money on the graveyard lantern tour, Blaze or horseman’s hollow scary walk if you want a fun Halloween time!!
MoreWe did the tour of the Old Dutch Church and cemetery with the society. Char, our guide was very knowledgeable and gave an interesting and engaging talk as we toured the graveyard and the grounds of the Phillipse estate. Excellent use of time.
MoreA great local history museum, the staff provided a wealth of information regarding the Capture of Major Andre a major historic event which is how it was discovered that Benedict Arnold was a traitor. They have a rotating exhibit of other local history items displaying a mix of photos, documents and clothing. When I was there they had an exhibit on the history of the Tappan Zee Bridge and a book to write people memories of the bridge in now that the new bridge is complete. The staff also provides researchers with information about Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
