The First Unitarian Church of Omaha was conceived by some of Omaha's first settlers. The church building exhibits Colonial Revival architecture and has a reddish-brown façade, elegant white columns and a white tower. Based on the philosophy of Unitarian Universalism, this church conducts sermons that touch upon subjects like family, evolution, dreams and life-changing decisions along with traditional Biblical teachings. It observes its own annual seasons and rituals such as Water Ceremony and Flower Communion. It prefers child dedications in lieu of baptisms and organizes special Coming Of Age ceremonies for teenagers, which are preceded by educational sessions. It also hosts concerts that feature Mariachi bands and Celtic musicians.
