We were in Lincoln to do some genealogy research, a discovery trip to find more information on two generations of grandparents that lived in Omaha. We didn't really know what to expect. We met Matt when we got there who took so much time to show us around the research room, show us how to use the equipment and search for our ancestor's. I could have used more time, so plan accordingly. We were settled in for the day and started searching, with Matt always available and patient to help us in our search. We found newspaper articles and finally a photo which we were thrilled about as we didn't have a photo on this one set of grandparents. They have preserved newspapers for years, books and other helps. We found more than what we expected. They have plenty of microfiche machines to use, several microfiche scanners attached to computers so you can scan and email the documents to yourself, which was perfect for us. They have copiers so you can make physical copies. Everything is organized and easy to search. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and it was appreciated. Once you check in and sign in, if you have any bags, you will need a quarter to get a locker in the room. They will allow you to use a pencil, post it notes and a small notebook. Any bags, backpacks or purses with you will have to be put in a locker. It worked just fine for us. Only in town for 2 days, we spent the day and I wonder if there was more we missed, so we may have to go back. But for those of you doing genealogy research in Nebraska, this is a great starting point.

The Society obviously went to great lengths to present many artifacts about circuses, paintings of Nebraska towns, and masks. Very engaging.

I was in Lincoln to do genealogical research and I was looking for a marriage certificate from 1909 for my grandparents, and for their naturalization papers. They are not online. The wonderful Matt there helped me find both in the microfilms, load them into their reader, capture electronic copies, email them to me, etc. He even stayed to help me beyond their closing time. Those docs enabled me to go from knowing zero about my grandfather's ancestors to, since I now knew his parents' names, going back 9 generations! Thank you, Matt!!!

Went to an awards ceremony for Nebraska writers. It was such a well received event that the auditorium was overflowing to standing room only. I got an award winning book signed by its author!
