My family and I stopped by during a day trip to Lincoln this past summer and enjoyed ourselves visiting the galleries telling the stories of our part of the country. We enjoyed the exhibit showcasing women artists capturing the Great Plains from their viewpoint and experiences. They have a great collection and the gallery docents are very helpful and knowledgable. Make sure you plan a visit when in Lincoln!

I had a bit of time and although it was 95 degrees, walked five blocks to this museum. They had an exhibit of American artist depicting the Great Plains. Downstairs they featured the work of a contemporary artist. Although zi did not like his work as well as the traditional stuff upstairs, I was glad to learn about a new artist. They had his travel journal from his inspiration gathering trip to Nowhere. Oklahoma, which I read cover to cover. Ireally appreciated that it was free.

I've visited two different times and both times there were excellent exhibits of Great-Plains-related art. Not every piece was excellent but some was among the best art I've seen anywhere. Often the explanatory notes provide great additional information and context. If you're in downtown Lincoln it's definitely worth a visit.
