Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church was built in 1930, but it is actually the second church of that name to stand in the same space. It is an almost identical replica to a church that was built there in the 1850s and later damaged by surrounding construction. It is notable for its Gothic Revival architecture. Inside, there are stained glass windows, an elaborate altar, and cast iron pews. It's easy to see why this church is a local landmark and a beautiful place to visit.

tripadvisorAbsolutely beautiful church. We read about it and then a custodian talked to us about the history and restoration of it. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
MoreBeautiful and sacred space. The inside is gorgeous and looks much bigger than expected. I appreciated the architecture and the beautiful design. The statue is St Francis Xavier survived Hurricane Katrina and has the marks to prove it. Just a block off Canal street. Well worth a peek.
MoreSunday and last day of our visit so I googled a nearby Catholic Church to attend mass and it was about 2-3 blocks away from hotel. Absolutely stunning and it brought a sense of serenity to us. Mass was very nice, the sermon was more relatable, a good balance of tradition but not the loftiness or very judgmental (you would understand if you’re Catholic). Perfect finish for our trip.
MoreI am so glad that we explored this beautiful cathedral and read the brochure (50 cent donation) explaining the history and description of the interior.
