The Walter Grinnan Robinson House is one of the most beautiful residences in New Orleans. Located at 1415 Third Street in the exclusive Garden District, the genteel two-story mansion with a unique curved portico and wraparound galleries was completed in 1867 by New Orleans' most famous architect, Henry Howard, for Robinson, a cotton and tobacco merchant from Lynchburg, Virginia, who bought the corner lot in 1857. One of the largest houses in the Garden District, the Italian-style villa covers 10,516 square feet. The mansion, which includes seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a lavish ballroom, elevator and grand center staircase, and its adjacent servant quarters, stable and 1,500-square-foot, two bedroom, two bathroom carriage house have recently undergone renovation. The galleries are supported by Doric columns on the first floor and Corinthian columns on the second floor. The entire complex has been up for sale since 2013 and the current asking price is $9.5 million. That includes all the perks, including moldings with gold leaf, marble mantels, custom designed rugs, ceiling murals and spacious grounds with a swimming pool. Did I mention that the Robinson House was one of the first in New Orleans to have indoor plumbing?

Found this house while doing a self guided walking tour through the garden district with a map that was given to me by my server at the Commander’s Palace. Nice looking house, can’t go in.

Walking through the heart of the Garden District this is one of many beautiful historic homes. Only viewed from street as it is a private residence.
