The Catholic community in New Orleans was well established and consisted of the French-speaking Creoles. This community did not welcome the new Irish immigrants who were also Catholic with open arms. The need for a Irish Catholic Church was addressed by St. Patrick's Catholic Church which was built in 1833. The Gothic church has beautiful interiors with crisscrossing arched ceiling, stained glass windows and beautiful murals. Visit this sanctity to offer your prayers or simply enjoy the tranquil surroundings of this place.

tripadvisorAwesome, experience of a pseudo pre-Vatican celebration of a Mass in a beautiful church. Although I did not attend the Latin Mass, but the 11:15 Mass, most sung responses and hymns were in Latin Gregorian Chant nonetheless. The priests were in elegant pre-Vatican vestments. Since the altar abutted the sacristy, the priest said the Eucharistic prayer with back to the congregation. The Eucharist was given, kneeling at the railing. The reverence in these pre-Vatican gestures was appreciated. As for the church itself, the stain glass dome over the altar was unique. It looked great in juxtaposition against the murals on the walls behind the altar.
MoreOn my most recent visit, I finally was able to attend Sunday Mass at this historic and wonderful old church near Lafayette Square. I chose the Latin morning service and felt like a wide eyed first communicant all over again; I'd made my first communion the year before Vatican II so knew all the prayers, if a bit rustily. It was Gaudete Sunday (the 3rd Sunday of Advent) so everything was done up in the traditional rose pink hue.The artwork and stained glass are beautiful, and the organ gives an impressive sound. Mass was well attended, from the very oldest to the newest parishioners.Father welcomed me afterwards as I admitted was visiting from Los Angeles, and so did several parishioners, who wanted to know about the latest archdiocesan news from out West. Amen!
MoreI was happy to find this place near my hotel so I could walk to Mass from there. The building has striking architecture, and the inside is quite beautiful as well. There are some nice shrines, and the blue/green stained glass dome above the altar is very beautiful. The service had some of the more traditional liturgical trappings. There is also a nice little courtyard out back, where they had some coffee and mingling, along with a St. Joseph's altar (as I was there during that feast day).
MoreOld St.Patrick’s church is a really interesting structure and it’s a dominant building and shape. Interior is calm and peaceful.
MoreAbsolutely stunning church. My visit was at the time of the saying of the rosary. It was beautiful- truly amazing
