tripadvisorRang the bell, as instructed. The artist himself opened the door. Got to have a personal tour and lovely conversation with an extremely quirky cool talented man. I want to own one someday. Until then I've ordered a book about him with some nice panels of art. Very welcoming with some lovely colorful stories involving both art and Louisianna history. GO!
MoreWe just happened to step into George's studio and gallery at 626 Julia Street and enjoyed a real treat in listening to this N.O. native. He paints historical scenes from the city and has great stories to tell. His gallery is open Tues - Sat 12:30 - 4:30. He mentioned that some of his work is on display in the Riverside Hilton (3rd floor breezeway) and in Pete's Pub at the Intercontinental. We arrived at this hotel just as the bar was opening so we had full and unobstructed views of his wall-sized murals & the various stories of the city he depicted. Definitely worth a visit ... but go meet him first & you'll double your pleasure.
MoreIf you get a chance, walk over to George's gallery and strike up a conversation. You won't be disappointed. George is not bashful about expressing his opinion and he'll give you some insight into the culture and history of New Orleans that you simply wouldn't get without living there for decades. The art is fantastic as well. We bought a print which now hangs prominently in our house.
