For a whopping $5 per person the wife and i dropped in for the Rondezvous des Cajuns last weekend. We drove past miles of rice patties and crawfish farms on our drive up from Lafayette. The theater is quite nice, particularly for a small town in the country. The show was wonderful...Wallace Trahan and the Rice and Gravy boys are talented and fun. Add to this there is a cajun music museum a block away and a cajun cultural museum right out the back door and the beautiful drive to Eunice was well worth the time. Highly recommended.

If you enjoy Cajun music and culture, this is a must stop on Saturday evening. A miniature of the Grand Olde Opry where they have a full stage of musicians and broadcast an enjoyable show. Not the Opry but as close as you will get in Cajun Country.

A must stop when visiting Cajun country. You get a real feel for the culture. It helps if you speak French but not mandatory. Visit the cultural center while in the area

I think the Liberty Theater would be a great venue to hear Cajun music anytime of the year, but if you can experience it during Mardi Gras you will have a very memorable experience. During the performance, we were interrupted by a crewe of costumed locals taking part in the tradition of asking for money and goodies for their gumbo. Have plenty of nickels ready for the beggars! It was a fun experience.

We blundered into Eunice just in time for the weekly Saturday evening Cajun music show at the Liberty, which is a nice old theater originally built for silent movies. Not sure that it ever attracts top talent, and the small audience seemed like local boosters. But for $5 you can get a feel for local life and the music that permeates it. It reminded me of the Grand Old Opry because everyone on stage seemed so casual, including the very chatty MC, despite the fact that it is broadcast live. Get there a little early so that you can check out the Prairie Acadian visitor center next door, which conveniently stays open just until the show begins at 6 pm.
