One of my favourite places we visited on our tour in Louisiana ! Stunning buildings that are tastefully presented in an equally stunning location ! Loved the history, loved the little extra touch of being able to feed the turtles. A great educational trip down memory lane.

This was utterly charming and information. The cottages are really cool to see and the audio tour was great. We loved hearing John (?) play Acadian music.

A bit off the beaten path so I'd bet it doesn't get as many visitors as it deserves. There were only one or two other small groups while we were there. The site gives basic ino about the settlement of the Acadians from Canada in the late 1700's. The village contains Acadian (Cajun) homes from the early 1800's to early 1900's moved from various LA sites. Each has a small plaque with basic info about the house. Inside are period furnishing (a few beautiful quilts and wood furniture), more info, pictures, and some just plain old junk. However, the history itself is fascinating; one house was the birthplace of a powerful LA senator from the 1960's. A lovely little site for a break in your travels and to brush up on local history. It also has a nicely stocked gift store.

We came across this whilst staying in Lafayette. We had a couple of hours to spare - so glad we stopped by as it was both interesting and thought provoking.
