tripadvisorOur stay here was peaceful and relaxing. The park was quiet, except for the frogs and birds. lol the sites were concrete and quite level with full hook ups. We have a 40ft 5th wheel and had no issues although the roads in the park are not wide enough for an on coming car and a trailer. Someone will need to yield. There are not many shade trees as hurricane Laura wiped the place out in 2020 so a lot of the trees in the park are young. They replanted magnolia and long pine trees throughout the park. Would definitely stay here again.
MoreI went to Sam Huston Jones State Park one morning in mid-April. I wanted to get in a walk before a road trip to New Orleans. The park is well used and has many trails, both improved and dirt. I walked randomly for about an hour. Saw some birds, but not as many as I expected. I ended up on the children’s trail and was surprised by some colorful caricatures on forest creatures. I could have spent more time here if I had it.
MoreLove this park. Easy to get to, quiet, and peaceful. There are trails, cabins, RV hookups, and more. You can visit for the day or stay overnight. If you have mobility issues, there is plenty to see from your car...birds, alligators, and lots of trees. Beautiful!
MoreNice facilities and restrooms, this state park was fine for a night. However, the RV area was pretty much without trees and wilderness areas lacking.
MoreThe camping area for this park has concrete, level sites, electric, water and sewer but nary a tree! It is hot as hades in the summer!! There’s a picnic table per site but bring some sort of tent for it if you hope to use it during the day!! The sites are a little too close together so no privacy. But the bathhouse is very nice. It’s just not one of those beautiful state park settings. The park, itself, is lovely with lots of hiking opportunities. The cabins look great! They are set in the trees, many along the river with patios and stairs to docks down below. Cabins have a/c and grills. Super cute. The park is 25 easy minutes to the Golden Nugget and probably less to the Horseshoe.
