The Old Governor's Mansion Historical Museum

Having housed as many as nine governors, the The Old Governor's Mansion is today a museum affiliated with the National Register of Historic Places. Besides this, the manor was also the site where several scenes of the movie "Pitch Perfect 2" were filmed. It is used as a venue for various events, especially weddings. 1930s mini- White House - without some of the grace and style. Imagine you had a lot of power, some innately good ideas, somewhat limited funds and picture book taste. It's 1930 and you want an impressive official residence. Voila. Believe it or not though, that's not a knock against this interesting house which you can wander at will. Very period. Somewhat sparsely furnished formal rooms downstairs and a bit less grand than you'd expect (governments have limits - perhaps especially in 1930), but really quite fun. And there's a hidden staircase too. Magnificent sunroom space on the second floor, much more complete up here. Well worth seeing, lots of memorabilia from successive governors.

As others have said, it's a wonderful old building. I really liked the purple bathroom! You could take longer, but I spent about an hour there.

Free of charge self-guided tour of this fabulously preserved building. Many items still original to the different governors, who all had their own rooms, with varying coloured bathrooms. Not so secret staircase made us laugh. There’s a door at each end! Fascinating stories, including the one about the Governor who wrote “You Are My Sunshine”. Is now used for wedding receptions and makes dramatic pictures.

We loved it here. So many rooms and features that would be just right for a dream house. We even sang a little bit in the nice acoustics and were allowed to play the piano. Soon to be brides often come here for photo shoots. We took some pictures ourselves.
