First United Methodist Church was founded in this rough-and-tumble environment by a small society of Christians called Methodists. The church had no building, and pastors were visiting circuit riders. It was still simply known as Shreveport Methodist Church in 1845 when it built the citys first small meeting house on Market Street and shared it with the Baptists and Presbyterians. Today First United Methodist Church lifts its steeple high above the city a symbol of the same, simple hope that marked the churchs founding: the desire to serve God and reflect the abiding love of Jesus Christ. We are dedicated to the enrichment of our community through discipleship, leadership, small groups and missions. All are welcome!

MoreErik Rasmussen should look for another place to work.He is just the worst and is pushing Christians away from this church
MoreThe First United Methodist Church was built 1913. It has a very interesting location at Common Street and Texas Street. My husband and I were touring the Shreveport riverfront then turned onto Texas Street. We immediately saw the First United Methodist Church in the middle of the road 8 blocks away. It was a pretty sight. The stain glass windows and building architecture was beautiful. We did not attempt to go in. It is certain worth a drive by.
MoreIf the car parks are anything to go on this Church has a large congregation! Sadly, it wasn't open to the public on our visit which my Methodist wife lamented, so a view of the imposing exterior was the limit of our visit ! A lovely example of a 1913 built Church.
MoreWe have visited this church on more than one occasion and have always felt welcome. The downtown location is quite beautiful, but it does have a lot of stairs from the street level. Parking is not a problem and the choir is wonderful!
