tripadvisorYesterday evening I should have been enjoying the second act of The Shining Opera, but I didn't. Instead, I was angry and disappointed, because I missed the show due to Opera Colorado's lack of organization and parking. I live in Lakewood, and I left my home a little bit after 6:00 p.m. for a 7:30 showtime. I gave myself ample time to get to the DCPA Complex, where the Opera Colorado is located; however, I still missed the show because the DCPA garage and the Convention Center garage were both full. From the time I arrived to the intersection of 14th and Lawrence to the time I realized I would have to miss the show, I sat in my vehicle for over 45 minutes, while other frustrated guests tried to park in garages that were already full. Once I arrived to the Convention Center garage for the overflow parking, I was told to immediately turn around by an apparent staff member who, instead of attempting to help the guests, simply waved his arms at people and yelled, We're closed! We're closed! At that point, it was already after 7:30 and I knew by the time I found a spot to park, got to the Opera house, showed my vaccination card, and made my way to my seat, I would have been extremely late, and probably would have been given a hard time by the usher. I was very much looking forward to this event and am incredibly disappointed that the Opera Colorado does not do a better job of ensuring parking for it's guests who paid for overpriced tickets. I would like to think that Opera would try to alleviate this unfortunate matter, though I find it unlikely. That assumption is based on the fact that Opera Colorado clearly does not care to accommodate its guests by providing sufficient parking, and it does not bother with providing customer service by placing staff members in parking garages who can actually help guests find a place to park. Furthermore, Opera Colorado clearly knows that parking is an issue because on its website, there is a disclaimer that no refunds will be given to guests who are late or miss the show due to parking. Opera Colorado knows this is an issue, but does not bother to do anything about it. Opera Colorado has devised a brilliant scam to rip off its guests by charging for tickets, having insufficient parking so that guests cannot attend events, and then refusing to provide refunds or any sort of compensation. Opera Colorado should be ashamed of itself. I very much enjoy going to the theater and opera, but I will not be attending any of its shows in the future because I will not be giving it my business, nor will I be dealing with the frustration and headache of the impossible challenge of simply finding a place to park. The way Opera Colorado treats its guests is disgraceful and ridiculous.
MoreWhile we love opera, we are very disappointed with Opera Colorado ticket policies. After stating on website that tickets may be exchanged, I was told that tickets can only be exchanged for the current season. Seems very unreasonable in light of the cost - $300 and the failure to notify of this policy on the website. Since my tickets are for Carmen, the LAST full performance for the season, I CANNOT exchange. Bad customer care!
MoreAlways a class act! Never disappointed. You can order drinks (including alcohol sodas hot cocoa) ahead for intermission. The small prompters in front of your seat lets you know which act, scene, and some info ahead of time. Enjoy!!
MoreBeing that it was our first time to attend the opera we weren't sure what to expect but were pleased with the quality of the performance. We'll be back for certain!
MoreThough it opened to glowing reviews, I was not smitten with the world premiere production of The Scarlet Letter at Opera Colorado. I am admittedly not an opera buff, but for a world premiere opera, I had mistakenly expected something more hopeful, colorful, and engaging.
