tripadvisorFree entrance and tour. I was lucky to get the guide to myself so spent about 1.5 hours learning so much about history from the Revolutionary war era through the present. Really nice artifacts to look at and children's activities. There are even snacks to go! If you are an armchair historian of early American and/or the Civil War eras, I recommend stopping by. There's a walking trail as well for some nice outdoor activity.
MoreThey were very knowledgeable and kind. The history of this place is interesting and they are still finding artifacts! We found one while we were there! Great family outing idea and it's free! We would have paid!
MoreAndrew was our tour guide. He is excellent! He is very knowledgable about local history as well as the general civil war history, commerce, and daily life of this era. The tour is free. It includes an old house with artifacts under glass that have been found on the grounds. The local history is backed up by receipts and other items. This entire area (Sumner County) has about a dozen historic buildings spread out. Manskers station is about 15 minutes From Douglass Clar. Hendersonville is a big enough town to house multiple shops, Publix and Kroger. It’s about twenty minutes North of Grand Ole Opry. There is Old Hickory Lake. Google Power Plant road and you will find Old Hickory Beach with lots of trees, about 75% shade, about 30 or more picnic tables, shelters, a discreet visitors center, marinas, The Rudder is a restaurant at the marina directly across from Old Hickory Beach. Excellent restrooms too. A hidden gem just NE of Nashville TN.
MoreMy wife and I were given an informative and interesting tour of the house by its host, Andrew. He had detailed knowledge of the housesits surroundings and the people who lived in it over the years.
MoreWhen I visited the house was not open for interior tours, but I did take a few minutes to walk the grounds and read the signage information to get a better idea of the family. I may go back, calling ahead of time of course, to take the actual tour, but it isn't anything I would recommend you go out of your way to see.
