Our stay at the Eaton was marvelous. A problem with our reservation was solved immediately by Vaughn who worked diligently and creatively to insure our satisfaction. Every staff member was kind and helpful. The mission of the hotel is clearly expressed and makes for a supportive atmosphere. Our room was spacious and well-appointed (love the phonograph) and priced reasonably, especially for DC. My only suggestion is for more food options in the hotel.

My wife and I arrived at the Eaton late on a Sunday afternoon following a short flight from Boston. We found the Eaton to be ideally located and our room to be comfortable. However, we did not anticipate the lack of cafe/restaurant etc facilities nor the level of 24hr security parked in the corridor outside our room. This, I am afraid to say, had the opposite effect to making us feel more secure.

★★★☆☆ Great Design and Staff, but Overpriced Without Dining OptionsEaton is a beautifully designed, eclectic, artsy hotel with a strong connection to the local community. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are quiet, modern, and exceptionally clean, and I particularly appreciated the thoughtful touches, including the excellent selection of books in the rooms. The hotel has a distinctive character that sets it apart from typical chain hotels.Unfortunately, the overall experience falls short of its premium pricing. With Matt Baker's restaurant operations having closed amid financial difficulties, the hotel has very limited dining options. For a property charging these rates, the lack of accessible food is a significant disappointment.I stayed for three days while attending a film festival in October hosted at the hotel, and the food situation was particularly frustrating. The festival organizers shared that they were charged about $800 for the hotel's Saturday-night food offered during the festival. I was surprised because the food was quite underwhelming. Meanwhile, a small bag of popcorn cost $8! Nearly everything was excessively priced, which seemed especially unreasonable given the hotel's own restaurant situation. It's unfortunate because Eaton has so much going for it: excellent staff, creative design, a welcoming atmosphere, and a genuine community-oriented identity. However, premium hotel prices should come with premium amenities, and right now, the value simply isn't there.I hope Eaton resolves its restaurant situation soon. Until then, it's difficult to justify the price, despite everything else the hotel does well.
